Preoccupied ... Even While Dreaming in my Dream

Last night, I dreamt that I was sleeping and dreaming that I was chatting with coworkers and friends in my bedroom ... in the dark, as I was trying to get to sleep, and we were discussing the fact that when I wake, I will have to get ready for my marathon.

It was four layers of sleep with a marathon in the middle of it all.

I also flip flop during the day and run an internal dialogue that's something like this:

I'm so ready for this, I can do it tomorrow if I had to.

I'm not going to finish.

I'll finish ... probably between 4:30 and 5 ... but I'll finish.

I might die ... two days after my 26th birthday.

I'm going to be 26?

Holy crap! It's going to be my birthday! Huh ... I'll be 26. And to think, about ten years ago, I thought I would have a masters in something, be married and starting the whole family planning thing. Well ... I'll be running a marathon instead.

So I'm actually going through with this.

I might die ... at the finish line.

This thing called fear ... I'm definitely not a fan. It makes me seem insane.

Heh, I didn't know you were 26. I turn 28 in Feb. I'd love to run a Marathon though. I've read that it basically is torturous but I've also read that the satisfaction and the high afterward are unrivaled.

It's a check off my life's To Do List.

You should try one too, but start off with a little event ... like a 10k or even a half marathon if you are feeling ambitious. Once they charge your credit card, then you'll feel more mentally committed ... and think of it as an investment on your health as opposed to paying an event fee.

After that, just download a training schedule (I'm using the one from Runner's World) with the end date being the event that you signed up for. The toughest part is sticking to the schedule.

Oh, and I've heard horror stories about marathon winners. The recreational runner really doesn't have much to worry about, but when your livelihood is based on prize money ... the amount of effort it takes to propel a person to the finish line first can result in a trail of excrement at times.
