Mild Plans Turned Severe

Due to Sunday's less-than-kick-!ss strength class (it wasn't bad, it just wasn't anywhere near brutal), I wanted to make up for it with some follow up conditioning. My game plan was go easy on the treadmill for about an hour before class, and to use lighter weights and killer form for the strength work out. In total, I wanted to work at 75% intensity for the entire 2 hours, if not a little bit less.

Well, it didn't exactly pan out that way - the work out ended up being a bit on the severe side. I started off on the treadmill at around 70%, but my legs wanted just a bit more speed. So I ended up hitting 80-85% for about an hour. It didn't feel particularly difficult, but it was not what I had planned.

Walking in to the strength class, I was confident that I could go easy since Sharon-the-substitute-instructor wasn't at all difficult the last time I took one of her classes. Well, something must have happened since then because she thoroughly whipped my behind. It was a challenging class, but very doable. Her work out consisted of one set of 21 reps for every exercise, and she switched up the counts and the excercises so that you would work the same muscle group at least three times, but in three different ways.

That was definitely the toughest full two hour work out that I've had this year.

In an ideal world, class times would remain the same, but Sharon would teach at least one strength class per week, Janet will tack on Sunday's strength class to her instruction schedule, and Muse would instruct two evening spin rides. If that would happen ... I would be so unbelievably fit, happy, and probably injury free.
